hey there please help me.. i dont know if my chromebook acer c720 can download InfinityMU.. i tried downloading it but it says " not supported " .. If somebody know how, please PM me.. thanks
Chromebook is a device which by default using special OS, called ChromeOS. ChromeOS is not Microsoft Windows based, it's based on Linux, so sorry to say, but you won't be able to run the InfinityMU client on it.
Chromebooks (as well ChromeOS) designed to be a device which access only cloud infrastructure (cloud storage, cloud services, etc.), so for this reason it doesn't have powerful hardware [since most of operations are made in the "cloud"]. In fact all you can see in ChromeOS is like a fullscreen web browser.
However still there is option to "run" Windows application on these devices based on cloud infrastructure, there are some factors which make you still unable to enjoy playing on any Chromebook:
There would be quite huge [!] delay in gameplay, since Chromebook only can achieve this by showing the image output only, and the real program runs in some servers somewhere
No guaranty the game client would run at all in the provider's system
This available option is called VMware Horizon DaaS; it is not available home usage, it's quite expensive, so it doesn't fit for this purpose. You are free to check out the details.
However Miss Phryne if you are still interested to try running InfinityMU client on your Chromebook, maybe there is possibility that you can try. For this still Wine will be required, and a secondary OS (ChrUbuntu) to be installed on your device. The installation steps are described in this article (the other solution, chroot with Crouton is rather for advanced users), and here is a video where the two OSs are compared: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mswos96BUUk
After if your ChrUbuntu system is ready, the client's installation would be like this:
Firstly you should to install the Wine software, the easiest way is opening a terminal, pasting the following commands, and hit enter:
Code:
sudo apt-get install wine winetricks wine-gecko
After your wine installation is done, you have to set up your Wine environment too by these commands in the terminal (as above):
Code:
winetricks vcrun2008; winetricks vcrun2010
Soon installation windows will pop up that you have to accept.
The next step is installing the InfinityMU client, for this simply search for the installer in the file manager, open it, and follow the instructions as usually you would do on Windows.
When the installation is completed, in the good case you should to be able to run the client from by opening the desktop icon.
Important to note that still not sure your client will run fine, on a similar Linux OS I couldn't make the client run, it just simply didn't started.
Sad to say Miss Phryne, but you're unable to play Infinitymu on your Chromebook. The program, which may could help you (Wine) is unable to run it because of the game guard.
It expects many things from Windows [...] being present that Wine can't support by design [...].
